John Prescott is to explore the history of Wensleydale cheese and Mowbray’s pork pies for a Crackit series for Channel 5.
In the two-part doc series Made in Yorkshire, the former deputy prime minister will go behind the scenes of some of Yorkshire’s famous factories to discover the secrets behind the region’s iconic foods.
The politician, who has lived in the county for most of his life and was the MP for Hull East for 40 years, journeys around the region to get involved in production on the floors of factories that produce local favourites such as Wensleydale cheese and Vale of Mowbray Pork Pies.
Prescott said: “What an eye-opener for me to explore how important Yorkshire food products went from the village shop to the supermarket shelves across the UK. It was an absolute delight to appear in.”
C5 commissioning editor Adrian Padmore, who ordered the series, added: “We’re delighted to bring John Prescott to Channel 5 to explore his passion for Yorkshire’s finest food factories. This warm and uplifting programme is a real treat celebrating Yorkshire’s incredible workers and products.”
The series will air later this spring.
